"White Jade Bodhi beads" (often simply called "White Jade Bodhi") are hailed in the world of collectibles as "jade for the common person" and a "boon for beginners." Despite the name, they are not actually jade but rather seeds from the tropical *Corypha umbraculifera* (also known as the talipot palm or "palm-leaf manuscript tree"). Their most distinctive feature is that, once the outer skin is removed, the inner kernel is as white as jade and possesses a hard, dense texture. Through prolonged wear and handling—a process known as *panwan*—the beads gradually undergo changes such as color shifting, the development of a glossy sheen (*guaci*), and the formation of a fine network of surface cracks (*kaipian*), ultimately acquiring a warm, lustrous quality reminiscent of antique jade.
